llms.txt is a proposed file at a site's root that gives AI systems a clean, structured summary of what the site contains. It does for AI what robots.txt does for crawlers.
It is early and not yet universally consumed, but it costs almost nothing and it is one of the few concrete things a contractor can do specifically for AI systems today.
The problem it addresses is real. An assistant trying to understand a business has to parse pages built for humans, full of navigation and markup that carry no meaning. A plain-text summary of who you are, what you do, where you work, and which pages matter removes the guessing.
Be clear-eyed about status. Adoption is uneven and no major provider guarantees it is read, so anyone selling it as the way to get into AI answers is overselling. The things that actually decide that are schema, coverage, profile health, and reviews.
It is worth doing anyway on cost grounds. It is a static file, it does not need maintaining monthly, and if adoption grows the site that already has one does not have to catch up. This site publishes one at revcorehq.com/llms.txt.
